Helena School District #1 has openings for full-time 7 hours per school day Level I (Special Education) Para Educators.
At Helena Public Schools, our vision is to foster dynamic educational experiences that prepare all students for life. As a Level I (Special Education) Para Educator, you contribute to this mission by assisting students’ daily training programs who need a little extra help. You will work as part of a team of 70 serving 8,000 students across 18 campuses in Helena.
Some of your responsibilities include:
- Applying understanding of individual needs to assist special services students with learning materials and instructional exercises that support the growth of the whole child.
- Tutoring students with special needs individually or in small groups to reinforce and follow up on learning activities.
- Providing assistance with hygiene and feeding, escorting children to various rooms, and loading/unloading students on buses as needed.
- Maintaining appropriate data collection and documentation.
- Providing 1-to-1 assistance to students.
- Serving as supervision during lunch and recess.
- Assisting with bus duty.
Qualifications include:
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Up to three months of related experience and/or training;
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as determined by the District.
The ideal candidate will possess an associate’s degree (or equivalent) and experience working with children with disabilities. The position requires the ability to work safely with escalated students, including crisis intervention, and the ability to lift/move up to 40 pounds and push/pull up to 100 pounds with or without accommodations.
Salary and benefits: Current entry-level salary ranges from $15.50 to $19.03 per hour, depending on education and experience, including a comprehensive benefits package such as paid sick and vacation leave, personal days, holidays, health benefits, and retirement.
