Description
Helena College University of Montana is a comprehensive two-year college, providing access to and support of high-quality lifelong educational opportunities for our diverse community. This position seeks a full-time, tenure-track Chemistry Instructor for the Donaldson Campus, beginning Aug 2026 for the 2026‑2027 academic year.

The Chemistry Instructor is primarily responsible for teaching the following courses:
- CHMY 121 Introduction to General Chemistry with Lab
- CHMY 123 Introduction to Organic and Biochemistry with Lab
- CHMY 141 College Chemistry I with Lab
- CHMY 143 College Chemistry II with Lab
- CHMY 221 Organic Chemistry I with Lab
- CHMY 223 Organic Chemistry II with Lab
Key Responsibilities Include
- Teaching courses, both lecture and lab, in a traditional, face‑to‑face format.
- Maintaining a regular on‑campus presence to build relationships with students, colleagues, and transfer partners.
- Teaching 30–32 credits per academic year, typically four courses per semester (eight courses total).
- Ensuring effective instruction through student evaluation, learning outcome assessment, and departmental and institutional planning.
- Maintaining accessible course materials.
- Utilizing the Canvas LMS for gradebook and instructional purposes.
- Participating in professional development and college service activities.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
- Instruction of 30‑32 credits per academic year, typically in a face‑to‑face format, with possible expansion of online/virtual course offerings.
- Course preparation, including accessible course materials and assignments and grades in the Canvas LMS.
- Curriculum development and design, both at the course and program level.
- Assessment of student learning, course‑level learning outcomes, and program‑level learning outcomes.
- Use a variety of teaching methods to enhance understanding, including lecture, group discussions and activities, case studies, lab activities, etc.
- Collaborate with full‑time and adjunct faculty within the program.
- Participate in institutional functions such as college committees, student clubs, internships, recruitment, budget development, program promotion, and collaboration with academic and student affairs.
- Professional development and improvement activities in both teaching and discipline.

Minimum Qualifications
- A master’s degree in Chemistry or related field. Equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
- Ability to maintain a regular, physical presence on the Helena College Donaldson campus.
Preferred/Desirable Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Chemistry or related field.
- Prior teaching experience at the two‑year college level (two years preferred).
- Experience teaching online and using LMS (Canvas, Moodle, D2L, etc.) and educational technology.
Additional Information
Work Schedule: Regular work week is 5 days, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., with variations as needed. Obligations begin four days before the first semester and continue two days after graduation ceremonies.
