Volker Stevin are recruiting for our long term framework in Helensburgh. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well established team and support the business on a number of projects within the framework. The position allows flexibility of site base in Helensburgh and office location in Glasgow City Centre. A Security Clearance is required.
OverviewReporting to the Project Manager on site, the Senior Surveyor is responsible for all commercial and contractual matters on the site allocated to them and should be able to effectively manage surveyors and/or assistant surveyors to successfully deliver that project. On larger, more intricate projects, the Senior Surveyor may be required to carry out the same tasks for a section or sections of the works reporting to a Managing Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager.
KeyAccountabilities
- Ensure effective cost management of the project through regular and accurate forecasting and cost/value reporting.
- Lead and manage the procurement process to maximise profit and ensure subcontract orders are placed on time and in accordance with company policy, including references taken and suitable levels of HSEQ.
- Monitor and maximise cash flow.
- Mentor and develop surveyors within the specific project team.
- Be aware of contractual requirements and advise the site team on key requirements, ensuring that all notices and other matters are actioned to protect the business’s contractual position, including main, sub‑contracts and consultancy agreements.
- Act and ensure others always act in the company’s best commercial interests.
- Promote the company’s best standards and practices professionally.
- Monitor and chase main contract payments.
- Maintain accurate records of site activities and events for easy reference.
- Ensure commercial team compliance with the company commercial policy.
- Produce monthly valuations and commercial reports on time.
- Analyse cost to date reports and include them in general commercial reporting.
- Provide commercial reports in detail with all backup produced in accordance with the business’s commercial policy.
- Ensure subcontract payments are based on accurate valuation and are made on time.
- Maximise revenue opportunities.
- Identify and manage scope and risks on an ongoing basis.
- Minimise waste.
- Provide direction to the site team on overall contractual planning strategy and maintain it throughout the duration.
- Manage commercial involvement and understanding of the programme at a summary level.
- Actively involve in contractual programming issues.
- Develop programme awareness of the site team, produce, monitor, chase and complete warranty, PCG & bond tracking schedules for consultants, main contracts and subcontractors.
- Accreditation from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) or the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (ICES).
- Alternatively, a relevant degree with numerical or technical training. Relevant HND subjects include building/construction, urban and land studies, civil engineering and structural engineering.
- Adequate experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor.
- Degree in Quantity Surveying and relevant experience obtained.
