Financial Controller

The Financial Controller will be responsible for maintaining a strong financial control environment and ensuring the accuracy, integrity and timeliness of financial reporting. Reporting to the Group Financial Controller , the role will have a particular focus on financial controls, technical accounting, month-end reporting and statutory compliance , while supporting continuous improvement across the finance function. Financial Control & Reporting Own and strengthen the financial control environment, ensuring key controls are appropriately designed, documented and operating effectively.

Lead the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring accurate and timely reporting. Review balance sheet reconciliations, journals, accruals, prepayments and other key accounting areas. Maintain robust financial policies, procedures and control documentation. Identify control weaknesses and drive appropriate remediation. Ensure appropriate segregation of duties, review controls and financial governance are maintained. Support the preparation and review of management accounts and statutory financial statements.

Act as a key contact for external audit and ensure audit requirements are delivered accurately and on time. Technical Accounting Act as a key point of contact for technical accounting matters. Ensure accounting policies and financial reporting comply with IFRS and/or UK GAAP , as applicable. Monitor changes to accounting standards and assess their impact on the Group. Prepare and maintain technical accounting papers for significant transactions, judgements and estimates.

Provide accounting advice on complex and non-routine transactions, including areas such as revenue recognition, leases, provisions, impairment, financial instruments and taxation. Maintain and update accounting policies where required. Process Improvement & Business Support Identify opportunities to improve finance processes, controls and reporting. Support finance transformation, systems and automation initiatives. Partner with FP&A, Tax, Treasury and operational teams to ensure strong financial governance.

Provide clear, commercially focused accounting and control advice to stakeholders. Support the Group Financial Controller with wider Group reporting and control initiatives. Key Deliverables Accurate and timely month-end and year-end reporting. Strong balance sheet controls and reconciliations. Effective and well-documented financial control environment. High-quality statutory accounts and audit delivery. Robust documentation of key accounting judgements and technical conclusions. Timely implementation of changes to accounting standards.

Continuous improvement in finance processes and controls. Experience & Qualifications Qualified accountant ( ACA, ACCA or CIMA , or equivalent). Strong post-qualification experience in financial control/accounting. Strong knowledge and practical application of IFRS and/or UK GAAP . Proven experience in financial controls, balance sheet management and financial reporting. Experience managing month-end/year-end close and external audit. Strong technical accounting and analytical skills.

Excellent attention to detail, professional scepticism and ability to challenge effectively.
