Job Description

We're looking for an experienced and influential Regional Service HSE Manager to drive a proactive, safety-first culture across our Europe & Africa Service organisation.

This is a high-impact regional role, partnering closely with Service Leaders, Field Service Engineers, Operations and customers to embed best practice, strengthen compliance and continuously improve health, safety and environmental performance across a diverse and geographically dispersed workforce.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Global EHS Director, you will be the regional expert and trusted advisor for all EHS matters relating to field service operations. You'll work directly with engineering and service teams operating in customer environments, helping ensure that safety remains at the heart of everything we do.

Success in this role requires more than technical expertise. We're looking for someone who can influence, engage and build relationships across cultures, countries and organisational boundaries. You'll be comfortable having meaningful conversations with engineers in the field one day and senior leadership teams the next.

This role can be based in either, Hemel Hempstead UK, Wiesbaden, Germany and Vitry, France. It will include circa 30% travel across UK, Europe and Africa.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leading the deployment and implementation of Smiths Detection EHS policies, standards and programmes across the region
  • Championing a strong safety-first culture through coaching, engagement and visible leadership
  • Acting as the primary EHS advisor to regional service leadership teams
  • Conducting field safety assessments, audits, inspections and risk reviews across customer sites and service operations
  • Supporting incident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective action management
  • Driving compliance with local legislation, company policies and ISO management systems
  • Monitoring regional HSE performance metrics and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Supporting business continuity planning and scenario testing activities
  • Delivering EHS awareness initiatives, toolbox talks and employee engagement programmes
  • Partnering with customers, contractors and external stakeholders on health, safety and compliance matters
  • Sharing best practice and lessons learned across the wider global organisation

What We're Looking For:

  • You'll be an experienced HSE professional with a track record of supporting operational, engineering or field service environments.
  • We're particularly interested in individuals who combine strong technical knowledge with the ability to influence and build trust across international teams

Why Join Smiths Detection?

This is an opportunity to shape safety culture across a major international service organisation while working with diverse teams across Europe and Africa. You'll play a critical role in protecting our people, supporting operational excellence and helping deliver solutions that make the world safer.

If you're a credible HSE leader who thrives in international environments and enjoys building strong relationships across cultures and teams, we'd love to hear from you.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in Health, Safety and Environmental leadership roles in Manufacturing / Industrial Automation.
  • A NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent advanced EHS qualification
  • Professional certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH, CSP, CRSP or equivalent
  • Experience supporting field-based engineering, service, manufacturing or technical operations teams
  • Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and risk management principles
  • Experience leading investigations and implementing effective corrective actions
  • The confidence to challenge, influence and coach stakeholders at all levels
  • Experience operating within a global matrix organisation
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • A hands-on, pragmatic and collaborative approach
  • Experience working within airports, ports, government facilities, critical infrastructure or other high-security environments would be advantageous.
