SEN Teaching Assistant – Hemel Hempstead

We are seeking a resilient, proactive, and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a mainstream primary school in Hemel Hempstead as soon as possible. This full-time role will be based within a Year 3 classroom, supporting pupils with special educational needs and high levels of challenging behaviour.

Key Responsibilities:

* Provide dedicated support within a Year 3 classroom, working closely with the class teacher to deliver structured and engaging lessons.

* Support pupils with additional needs, including those displaying challenging behaviour, helping them access learning and remain engaged.

* Implement behaviour management strategies consistently, promoting a safe, calm, and purposeful learning environment.

* Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to support their emotional regulation and social development.

* Work one-to-one and with small groups to reinforce learning, develop independence, and encourage positive behaviour choices.

* Assist in adapting resources and activities to meet individual learning and behavioural needs.

* Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour, and wellbeing, providing regular feedback to teaching staff and SENCO.

* Support with personal care where required (training provided if necessary).

Requirements:

* A valid DBS check on the Update Service is preferred.

* Previous experience supporting children with SEN and/or challenging behaviour, ideally within a primary school setting.

* Confidence in managing behaviour using positive reinforcement and de-escalation strategies.

* A calm, patient, and consistent approach with strong resilience.

* Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

* A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs to achieve their full potential
