Teacher Active is recruiting for a unique opportunity in a client school.

We are looking for a community mentor to start in September. This is a temporary position with the opportunity to go permanent for the right candidate.

Role Purpose

To build positive, trusting relationships with young people and remove barriers to learning through personalised mentoring, safeguarding, attendance support and partnership working. Community Mentors play a central role in supporting learners to engage with education.

Roles and responsibilities:

Learner Engagement & Mentoring

  • Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with an allocated case-load of learners.
  • Deliver personalised mentoring sessions in line with the learner's allocated pathway
  • Support learners to overcome barriers to education, promoting engagement, resilience, independence and personal development.
  • Deliver community-based mentoring sessions in accordance with operational procedures and risk assessments.
  • Promote positive learning behaviours and encourage learners to take increasing ownership of their education.
  • Adapt mentoring approaches to meet the individual needs of each learner, recognising trauma-informed and SEND-informed practice.

Attendance & Engagement

  • Monitor the attendance and engagement of allocated learners, identifying concerns at the earliest opportunity.
  • Work collaboratively with the Community Operations and Attendance Coordinator to support learner engagement and re-engagement.
  • Conduct welfare checks and home visits in accordance with Progress Community procedures.
  • Support learners returning following periods of absence or disengagement.
  • Maintain regular communication with families to encourage sustained engagement in education.
