The role sits within an engineering team working across long-term water programmes, playing a key part in delivering high-quality mechanical design across a range of projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering mechanical design outputs in line with safety and quality requirements
  • Producing calculations, drawings, and technical documentation
  • Leading coordination with CAD technicians and supporting their development
  • Managing interfaces with subcontract design teams (including M&E)
  • Preparing scopes and reviewing third-party design outputs
  • Engaging with suppliers, reviewing tenders, and supporting equipment selection
  • Producing reports, specifications, and design investigations
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant standards and engineering practices
  • Managing design changes and ensuring accurate documentation
  • Supporting estimation and planning of design activities
  • Attending and presenting at technical and client meetings

Requirements

  • Experience in mechanical design within the UK water sector
  • Exposure to both clean water and wastewater projects (infrastructure and non-infrastructure)
  • Experience with hydraulic design and associated calculations
  • Knowledge of programmes such as UMON or similar upgrade schemes
  • Understanding of construction methods and engineering drawing practices
  • Chartered Engineer status, or working towards chartership
  • Strong technical, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience supporting or mentoring junior engineers and technicians
  • Degree, HND, or equivalent experience
