About The Role

Short-term IT Assetand Configuration Manager - 3 month position which may be extended

NHS Professionals is seeking a short-term IT Asset and Configuration Manager for an initial 3 month position. The immediate requirement is to stabilise and improve IT asset, software asset and configuration management controls, with a focus on trusted asset data, CMDB maturity, lifecyclegovernance, audit readiness and practical reporting.

This role will also include stock control and procurement.

We need an experienced asset and configuration management professional who can quickly assess the current position, identify gaps, put practical controls in place and provide clear recommendations for sustainable ownership after the assignment ends.

This role requires a minimum of 3 days per week in our Hemel Hempstead office
, so candidates must be able to commit to this working arrangement.

Immediate availability is essential
, and we are looking for candidates who are able to start at short notice.

• Review the current IT asset and configuration management position and identify priority control gaps.
• Manage the end-of-life asset replacement programme including procurement of devices.
• Improve the accuracy, completeness and usability of asset and configuration data.
• Manage the development of CMDB structure in a new ITSM application, ownership, lifecycle status and data quality controls.
• Strengthen audit evidence for hardware, software, licensing, disposal, ownership and lifecycle management.
• Provide practical reporting and recommendations to support longer-term ITAM and SACM maturity.

• Assess current asset data sources, including ITSM tooling, device management records, supplier records, procurement information and operational spreadsheets.
• Identify and prioritise data quality issues, reconciliation gaps, unclear asset ownership, lifecycle risks and supplier process weaknesses.
• Define practical controls for asset creation, update, movement, refresh, return, disposal and change-related updates.
• Support CMDB improvement, including configuration item standards, ownership, lifecycle status and relationships where appropriate.
• Produce clear reporting on asset accuracy, compliance risks, lifecycle position, exceptions and recommended improvements.
• Work with IT Service Delivery, Infrastructure, Information Security, Finance, Procurement, HR, suppliers and operational teams to improve accountability and adoption.

• Strong hands-on experience in IT Asset Management, Software Asset Management, Configuration Management or CMDB improvement.
• Able to make progress quickly in a short-term assignment, working with imperfect data and multiple stakeholders.
• Good understanding of ITIL service management and how asset and configuration data supports Incident, Request, Problem, Change, Finance, Security and reporting processes.
• Experience improving data quality, running reconciliations, preparing audit evidence and creating practical controls.
• Experience managing an end-of-life asset replacement programme
• Confident working independently, challenging poor data quality and influencing teams or suppliers without direct line management authority.
• Experience with ITSM, asset discovery or inventory tools such as Fresh Service, Ivanti, Service Now, Device
  42, Intune or similar is desirable.
• Knowledge of ISO
  27001, Cyber Essentials, NHS DSPT, software licensing or regulated environments is desirable.
