We're looking for reliable, motivated and customer-focused individuals to join our Estate Services Team as a Communal Area Cleaner.

This is a varied and rewarding frontline role where no two days are the same. You'll work across our housing estates and supported housing schemes, helping to maintain clean, safe and welcoming environments for residents and visitors.

As part of a dedicated Estate Services team, you'll carry out a range of cleaning and environmental tasks and take pride in making a visible difference to the communities we serve.

What you'll be doing

As a Communal Aree Cleaner, you will:

  • Deliver routine and scheduled cleaning services, ensuring communal areas are maintained to agreed standards.
  • Carry out communal area cleaning in housing estates and supported housing schemes.
  • Undertake specialist cleaning tasks where trained, including mould, algae or fungus treatment.
  • Support void clearance and specialist cleaning activity.
  • Identify and report issues such as damage, fly-tipping, vandalism, defects and health and safety concerns.
  • Work independently whilst maintaining high standards and excellent customer service.
  • Interact professionally with residents and members of the public.

What we're looking for

We're looking for someone who:

  • Takes pride in delivering high-quality work.
  • Can work independently and manage their workload.
  • Has a strong understanding of safe working practices and health and safety requirements.
  • Is able to identify and report issues that affect residents, estates or service delivery.
  • Has good communication and customer service skills.
  • Is reliable, flexible and committed to delivering excellent services.

Why Join Us?

This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role within a progressive Estate Service that is committed to delivering high-quality services for residents.

You will join a supportive management team and have the opportunity to influence service delivery, shape future improvements and contribute to wider organisational priorities at an exciting time for local government.

A satisfactory Basic DBS check will be required for the successful candidate.

Information for applicants on Local Government Reorganisation

The Council is going through a major change as part of Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) and devolution. This means that the district and borough councils in Hertfordshire will be replaced by a smaller number of new unitary councils.

The aim is to make local government simpler and more efficient, improve services for residents, and bring decision-making closer to the communities we serve.

What this means for you

If you join Dacorum Borough Council between now and 31 March 2029, you will move to a new organisation on 1 April 2029. Your role will transfer to the new authority, but the way you work and who you report to may change.

While this may be different from what you are used to, it is also a rare and exciting opportunity to join Dacorum at a time of real change.

You will have the chance to help shape the future of local services and be part of building something new.

The new unitary councils will create opportunities for innovation, growth, and better public services. They will offer a more joined-up and forward-looking working environment for employees.

We are committed to supporting our staff and continuing to deliver high-quality services for residents throughout this change.
Together, we are building a better future.
