About the Opportunity Austal and the Commonwealth of Australia are currently negotiating a landmark Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement (SSA) that will support the Continuous Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Enterprise and the delivery of multiple new defence force shipbuilding projects, such as Landing Craft-Medium and Landing Craft-Heavy for the Australian Army.

Once signed, the SSA will drive significant growth across our industry and workforce, as we deliver both existing and new programs under a long-term partnership. It will also enable the design and construction of vessels at our Henderson shipyard and marks a major step forward in establishing enduring shipbuilding capability within the Henderson Defence Precinct and across Western Australia. To achieve this, we are building a highly skilled team, to engage with local industry and supply chains, and work on complex, large-scale projects that reflect Austal’s proven capabilities and trusted performance.

The Material Management Officer is responsible for working with the wider Supply Chain and Engineering teams to ensure material codification and cataloguing standards are met and that material information is available for use across Austal’s Projects. What’s Involved Building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders across departments, including Programs, Engineering, IT, and Supply Chain Collaboration to clarify material requirements and ensure timely availability and inventory control

Implementing and maintaining codification and cataloguing policies, ensuring compliance with standards and procedures

Codifying and updating material catalogue entries, including assigning NSNs and material groupings

Liaision with suppliers and internal requestors to gather and verify technical data for catalogue accuracy

Applying inventory control methods (e.g., ABC analysis, EOQ, JIT) to optimise stock levels and reduce costs

Supporting obsolescence management through surveillance coordination and replacement part assessments

Assisting in developing and executing stocktaking plans, updating catalogue data, and analysing material usage and procurement trends You’ll Need3+ years experience within a Marine Support, Engineering, Manufacturing or Defence organisation

Experience in computerised ERP environment

Experience and understanding of asset management standards, systems and processes
