Position: Fire Inspector II*

The City of Henderson announces an examination to create an eligibility list and to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Fire Inspector II in the Department of Building and Fire Safety/DSC. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to six (6) months or up to one (1) year, depending on employment status.

Under general supervision, performs more complex fire inspection work including conducting general inspections, enforcing codes, and providing information to the public; and performs related duties as assigned.

PLEASE NOTE:

This job announcement is for the Fire Inspector II position. Candidates interested in receiving consideration for both the Fire Inspector I and Fire Inspector II vacancy must apply for each position separately via the respective job bulletin. Candidates who apply for and are invited to move forward will undergo the same assessment process and interview only once; scores earned will apply to both recruitments.

NOTE

TO CURRENT EMPLOYEES:

Pursuant to the Teamsters collective bargaining agreement, full‑time non‑probationary employees successfully completing the assessment process will be placed on an eligibility list to be used to fill vacancies in this classification for up to six (6) months. Probationary full‑time, part‑time, temporary employees, and external candidates who successfully complete the testing process will be placed on separate list(s), which may be used to fill vacancies for up to one (1) year.

If the vacancy is not filled by full‑time non‑probationary employees, the separate list(s) may be utilized.

  • Graduation from high school or the equivalent
  • Two (2) years of experience conducting fire code inspections
  • Note:

    An equivalent combination of related education, experience, and training may be considered
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada or “border state” driver’s license, as defined by NRS 483
  • Must possess certification as a Level II Fire Inspector from the International Code Council at the time of application
  • Must obtain certification as a Fire Inspector II from the Nevada State Fire Marshal’s office within 12 months from the date of appointment
  • All required licenses and certificates, as mandated by local, state, and federal laws, or as required herein, must be obtained and maintained as a condition of continued employment and at the incumbents’ expense
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION:

2) Current and valid ICC certification as a Level II Fire Inspector (required)

3) Certification as a Fire Inspector II from the Nevada State Fire Marshal’s office (if applicable)
