Job Purpose And Summary

At CVS Health, we are focused on transforming health care for our customers and making our company a great place to work. We help people navigate the health care system – and their personal health care – by improving access, lowering costs and being a trusted partner for every meaningful moment of health. Within our Retail locations, we bring this promise to life with heart every day and our Pharmacy Technicians play a critical role in supporting our pharmacy teams to consistently deliver on our brand promise.

As a Technician, you will support the pharmacy team in delivering operational and service excellence within your store. Technicians are often the first point of contact to assist our patients and customers, ensuring prescriptions are filled promptly, safely and accurately while providing caring service that exceeds patient expectations. You will work in a pharmacy team and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), best practices and effective communication.

Throughout your shifts, you will demonstrate genuine care and contribute to a safe and inclusive culture.

Once in role, Technicians must complete rigorous company training, satisfy all registration, licensing and certification requirements per state Board of Pharmacy guidelines, and may have duties restricted by the Pharmacy Manager until requirements are met.

Responsibilities
  • Live our purpose by following all company SOPs at each workstation to help pharmacists manage and improve patient health.
  • Follow pharmacy workflow procedures for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment (production, pick‑up, drive‑thru, drop‑off).
  • Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care: creating heartfelt moments while serving patients at pick‑up, drive‑thru and over the phone; offering immunizations and other services; solving or escalating patient problems.
  • Complete basic inventory activities as permitted by law and directed by pharmacy leadership (putting away deliveries, cycle counts, returns‑to‑stocks, waiting bin inventories).
  • Contribute to a high‑performing team, embrace a growth mindset and seek opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge.
  • Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, and volunteer for store travel within the market as required.
  • Understand and comply with all relevant federal, state and local laws, regulations, professional standards and ethical principles, and comply with CVS policies for patient safety and privacy.
  • Deliver additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point‑of‑care testing, opening off‑site clinics) where allowed by law and training.

Immunization Support (if permitted)

  • Complete licensure and training to obtain Technician Immunizer status for preparations and administrations.
  • Educate patients about vaccine importance and refer to the pharmacist‑on‑duty for vaccination questions.
  • Monitor and report adverse reactions per public health requirements.
  • Collect and document patient information for each applicable immunization.
  • Monitor and manage vaccine supplies.
Qualifications
  • Comply with any state Board of Pharmacy requirements or laws governing practice.
    • Minimum age: 16 (if no state requirement).
    • Minimum education:

high school diploma, equivalency, or active enrollment.
  • State‑level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state.
Essential Functions

  • Ability to complete required training within the designated timeframe.
  • Attention and Focus:
    • Concentrate on tasks and pivot quickly to meet patient and business needs.
    • Confirm prescription information and label accuracy for patient safety.
  • Customer Service and Team Orientation:
    • Actively look for ways to help people in a friendly manner.
    • Notice and respond appropriately to patient reactions.

    • Use and understand verbal and written communication with patients and colleagues.
