Certified Pharmacy Technician

Base Pay Range

$17.50/hr – $21.00/hr

• Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision, in accordance with state and federal regulations, and with company policies and procedures.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. If PTCB certified, coach pharmacy technicians and cashiers in pharmacy system use.
• Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience.
• Engage customers and patients by greeting them, offering assistance, and resolving customer issues to ensure a positive experience.
• Publish customer service best practices and share with team members, including greeting, eye contact, courtesy, and Walgreens service traits.
• Develop strong relationships with key customers whenever possible.
• Assist in the practice of pharmacy, review and comply with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
• Perform duties assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, or Store Manager, such as entering patient and drug data, filling prescriptions, verifying medication, checking for interactions, and maintaining workflow.
• Report prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to Company policies on pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
• Follow the Walgreen Co. policy on Good Faith Dispensing during all applicable prescription dispensing activities.
• Record all related sales on the assigned cash register, manage cash, and guide customers to the OTC aisle when appropriate.
• Handle telephone calls that do not require pharmacist attention, including calls to physicians.
• Process (correct and resubmit) manual claims for third-party prescription services promptly and perform other clerical duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager.
• Support Pharmacy Department inventory management, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments; file claims for overages, shortages, or damaged goods.
• Assist pharmacists with clinical services such as collecting, labeling blood/urine samples, and coordinating with Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.
• Help develop and maintain relationships with the local medical community, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers.
• Assist in exterior and interior maintenance, ensuring the Pharmacy Department is stocked, clean, neat, and orderly.
• Maintain respectful relationships with coworkers and comply with all company policies.
• Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.

• Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or state-required certification. PTCB certification may be required for promotion to senior technician.
• Attend training and complete required Principal Professional Licensure (PPLs) and continuing education credits; keep knowledge of healthcare and pharmacy current.

• Fluent reading, writing, and speaking in English (unless in Puerto Rico).
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

• Six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Strong math skills for accurate prescription filling.
• Good computer skills.
• Knowledge of store inventory control.
• PTCB certification.
