OverviewThe Director of Student Health is responsible for managing all aspects of the Office of Student Health within the Division of Student Affairs (DOSA). Responsibilities include maintaining accurate student health and immunization records, providing health records to student clinical rotation sites, evaluating acute illnesses, performing outpatient procedures, providing wound care, ordering labs and diagnostic tests including drug screenings, sponsoring vaccine clinics (flu and immunizations), and providing health education and counseling.
The Director also collects pertinent student data and coordinates with other team members for appropriate student intervention, working cooperatively with the DOSA team. The candidate must demonstrate the University’s core values of intellectual pursuit and service to humanity through their work and display an inclusive, welcoming attitude toward all community members.
Located in Henderson, Nevada, approximately twenty-five minutes from the Las Vegas Strip, Touro University Nevada is a non‑profit medical, health sciences, and education graduate university focused on positively impacting our community in healthcare and education. Responsibilities- Evaluation of acute illness (e.g., sore throat, cough, ear infection, pink eye)
- Short‑term supply of refills
- Suture lacerations, splint or wrap strained ankles, fingers, etc.
- Perform physical exams as needed, and include a chaperone when appropriate
- Order labs, diagnostic tests or radiology imaging
- Referrals to specialists and send all medical records to referring physician’s office
- Wound care—dressings, suture/staple removal
- Perform outpatient procedures such as urinalysis, pregnancy test, rapid Strep test, glucometer
- Send out cultures (urine, throat)
- Provide customized lab requisition forms for Quest and Primex
- Compile a list of referrals for specialist, urgent care, dentist, etc.
- Perform blood pressure and glucose checks
- Provide required vaccines to students
- Lead the Student Health Center staff team; hire, train, evaluate, and supervise staff members
- Complete administrative responsibilities in the Student Health Center
- Work closely with other providers in the Health Center
- Health education and counseling: lecture for brown‑bag lunches and other campus presentations; guest speaker or instructor for various programs
- Troubleshoot insurance discrepancies or claims verification
- Handle all communication with rotation facilities regarding immunizations or documents
- Clerical services for graduates: provide request documents of health records or results
- Sponsor clinics for flu (for employees, students and family members), PPD and other immunizations as requested
- Communicate with all students and programs about immunizations and urine drug screening
- Order random drug screenings and set up a toxicology account with Quest Diagnostics
- Verify all positive urine drug tests; work with the Dean of Students following institutional policy
- Maintain immunization records; create templates in the appropriate web‑based software program (COM, DPT, PA, OT, Nursing)
- Send reminders about expiring or missing immunizations; scan and upload urine drug screen results into the software program
- Initiate a urine drug screen protocol and policy
- Create various forms (urine drug screen consents, clinic patient intake/physical exam forms, medical release, etc.)
- Handle urine drug screens and physicals for rotations for each applicable program
- Follow institutional policy for handling needle‑stick incidents: file an incident report, order labs and surveillance labs as needed
- Update all immunization letters each time a student goes on clinical rotations; email students their updated letters; forward letters to the clinical education department
- Copy, fax, email or mail all health records to clinical rotation sites or students upon request
