Job Summary and ResponsibilitiesThe Labor Registered Nurse triages and cares for laboring patients under the direction of the Maternal Child Manager/Director. Additional patient populations served by the labor nurse include ante-partum, post partum/newborn, and post-gynecological.
- Employs critical thinking to integrate objective data with knowledge gained from an assessment of the subjective experiences of patients, applying the best available evidence and research data to diagnosis and treatment.
- Evaluates quality and effectiveness of nursing practice to optimize outcomes. Ongoing professional knowledge, technical skills, clinical judgment, interpersonal skills, and communication are essential.
- Practices within the scopes and standards set forth by the American Nurses Association.
- Position is represented by CNA and covered by applicable collective bargaining agreement.
- 1 year of recent experience as an RN in Labor and Delivery or acute care setting within the last 2 years, successful completion of applicable clinical and didactic SRDH specialty training program.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Current RN license in Nevada.
- CT CPRBLS, CT NRP, CT CPRACLS, CT EFM (within 6 months of hire), CT AFM (within 6 months of hire).
- Experience in Antepartum, Intrapartum, Postpartum, Post-gynecological and Level 1 Newborn Care.
- Capacity to circulate for surgical procedures performed on the Maternal Child Unit.
- Experience with Electronic Fetal Monitoring.
- Medical Screening Exam competency and Triage Obstetrical Patients (within 6 months of hire for experienced nurses).
- Newborn stabilization and resuscitation skills.
- Post Anesthesia Care capability.
- Quarterly AHA Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) competency certification post-hire required.
- 3 years of recent experience as an RN in Labor and Delivery or equivalent in a setting with 100 births/month.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
- Certification in Specialty Area.
