Primary responsibilities:
- Installing transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switch gear
- Setting poles and anchors, stringing overhead wire, proper sagging techniques
- Troubleshooting primary and secondary systems
- Replacing cutout fuses and clearing faulted circuits and systems
- Solving problems with unidentified circumstances on any particular job
- Ensuring daily testing and inspection of assigned tools and equipment
- Communicating professionally with public and private property owners about work to be performed
- Maintaining company equipment safely and efficiently
- Performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized overhead line work following company established Safety and Health standards
- All other duties as required or requested by Supervisors
- Reporting all potential equipment and crew safety hazards to Foreperson
- Ability and specific skill to work with energized high voltage systems
- Strong communication skills written and spoken
- Work with and around heavy equipment
- Knowledge of proper sagging techniques
- Install and remove a service
- Identify primary and secondary voltage
- Tying in a primary conductor, phasing a circuit through a substation and identify induced voltage
- Checking voltage on transformers, one shot on a re-closer and grounding procedures
- Knowledge of flag and tag procedures
- Understanding of different materials used in linework
- Knowledge of Kellum grips and phasing sticks
- Knowledge of load break tool and reconductoring job
- Proven previous Overhead Maintenance experience
- Knowledge of trenching and shoring, rigging, hand lines and line-man knot tying and using a hand line
- Assisting hooking up a single or three phase transformer
- Inspect/use proper cover up
- Minimum approach distance knowledge
- Bucket rescue capability
- Safely installing and removing a mechanical jumper
- Climb different structures and possess the tools to do the climb
- Identify, operate and service all required tools and equipment (bucket truck, digger derrick truck, tensioners, puller, rollers, hand tamp, chain saw, concrete saw, shovel)
- Operate and service all required tools and equipment
- Work long hours and overtime during holidays, emergencies, week-ends, etc.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in the electrical power line construction industry
- Proof of work experience, schooling, and certifications obtained during career
- Willing to travel out of state for emergency storm work
Valid Driver’s License is preferred. If not, discussion during interview process. Valid CDL is preferred or willingness to obtain valid CDL within 90 days of employment. If unable to obtain, discuss during interview process.
SafetyDue to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must have sufficient eyesight to judge distance/coordination of equipment and tools, be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods, be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, be able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary, be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day, have the endurance necessary to traverse various terrain, be capable of performing job duties throughout a standard 8 or 10–hour day, be able to communicate with others, read, write, and comprehend written and verbal job instructions and information, and communicate and handle conflict professionally.
