Position Summary

Reports to the designated community team lead. Responsible for providing and completing assessments, implementing complex treatment and discharge plans, and providing counseling services to inmates. Serves as a professional resource to other counselors in resolving complex case problems and provides clinical supervision and guidance as appropriate. Provides services to inmates in compliance with Management & Training Corporation (MTC) and Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) directives.

Functions
  • Designs and implements comprehensive treatment plans (CTP) and comprehensive assessment plans (CAP); and conducts intensive or comprehensive interventions.
  • Assumes independent clinical responsibility for all inmates, including the application of crisis intervention techniques to include suicide prevention, recognizing abnormal behavior, and taking appropriate action to prevent or diffuse potentially disruptive situations.
  • Collaborates with supervisor or other psychiatric, social work, or medical professionals on specific case-related issues to maintain continuity of care, and to aid in achieving therapeutic and restorative goals for inmates through individual and group counseling.
  • Conducts evaluation tests for inmates to determine needs, establish goals and develop plans; makes referrals to contract professionals for assessment and treatment of inmates.
  • Provides recommendations regarding CAP; makes case presentations; and assists the program director and treatment team.
  • Maintains and monitors the confidentiality of inmate records and reviews the status of inmates.
  • Maintains accurate and complete case reports, records, and statistics necessary for the evaluation of the program.
  • Attends scheduled staff meetings; promotes communication and the proper flow of relevant information between administration, staff, and inmates.
  • Promotes the development of positive social skills and intervenes when inappropriate behaviors are observed; provides regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and intervention techniques.
  • Maintains accountability of inmates; adheres to safety practices.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE).
  • Four (4) years of full-time, wage-earning substance abuse treatment experience. Each year of experience in excess of the required four (4) may be substituted for thirty (30) semester hours from an accredited college or university on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must possess current valid licensure as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor Intern (LCDC-I) by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), current valid certification as Certified Criminal Justice Professional
    -Applicant (CCJP-A) by the Texas Certification Board of Addiction Professionals, current valid licensure as Licensed Psychological Associate (LPA) by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors.
  • Must maintain valid licensure or certification for continued employment in the position.
  • A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required, unless waived by management.
Post Hire Requirements

Must complete Correctional Awareness Training (CAT) prior to inmate contact. Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements and pass an annual background check, both of which must be approved by Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
