Behavior Coach/Early Intervention Specialist

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Behavior Coach/Early Intervention Specialist to support early childhood educators in creating nurturing, developmentally appropriate learning environments. This position provides on-site coaching and mentoring to improve teacher-child interactions, promote social-emotional development, and ensure fidelity to the Head Start curriculum.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Human Services, or a related field.
  • Degree must be from an accredited institution recognized by the NC Department of Child Development and Early Education.
  • 2–5 years of experience working with young children in group settings.
  • Experience in Head Start, NC Pre-K, or Developmental Day programs preferred.
  • Knowledge of or experience with Practice-Based Coaching is a strong plus.
  • Bilingual capability in Spanish preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and proof of liability insurance required.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one and group coaching to teaching staff, focusing on improving classroom interactions and child development outcomes.
  • Conduct classroom observations to identify strengths and areas for improvement; tailor coaching plans accordingly.
  • Support educators in implementing effective strategies for behavior management and positive social-emotional development.
  • Collaborate with teachers, supervisors, and families to address behavioral concerns and develop individualized support plans.
  • Partner with the Disabilities Coordinator and other agencies to facilitate referrals for children needing additional services.
  • Assist families in understanding and responding to their child’s behavioral and developmental needs by sharing resources and strategies.
  • Facilitate and lead trainings on curriculum, child development, and behavior support best practices.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including coaching logs, progress reports, and data tracking.
  • Participate in teaching duties on an as-needed basis, including stepping into classroom ratios when required.
  • Promote and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Recognize and respond to workplace safety concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Strong knowledge of child development and early childhood education best practices.
  • Ability to coach and mentor with empathy, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Organizational and time management skills to handle multiple priorities.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to respond to the needs of classrooms and staff.
