Summary
The Operating Room Attendant is responsible for the transport of pre-operative and post-operative patients, assisting with positioning of surgical patients, cleaning operating rooms between surgeries, maintaining equipment and storerooms, obtaining supply carts and special-order items, and assist with direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities

• Transports patients, specimens, blood, and blood products between clinical areas. Assist with positioning and holding limbs for surgical site prep. Completes pre-op skin prep as outlined in physician orders.
• Obtains case needs for each operating room by positioning equipment, aids, and supplies. Assists with all aspects of room set up and cleaning.
• Performs delegated duties as a member of the surgical team under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Assists with other patient care activities as assigned by circulator.
• Maintains safe environment for patient care by effectively completing in between case cleaning for Operating Room. Demonstrates knowledge of cleaning agents and their intended use.
• Cleans and prepares operating room in between cases. Promotes a safe, clean and secure hospital environment for all, including the application of standard precautions and principles of infection control.
• Ensures surgical department/hallways and scrub sinks are clean and free of clutter or debris. Stocks assigned supplies and equipment as needed.

Required

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Preferred

• Completion of an approved Nursing Assistant course
• Experience working in a surgical setting

Working Conditions

• Physically demanding; includes handling and lifting patients
• Occasional exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions
• Working irregular hours including call hours
