Hereford County Hospital.

Main duties of the jobThe main duties of the role rotate between 'hot week' and 'cold week' operated on a 1:9 cycle, alongside other job planned clinical and non-clinical activities.
Hot week will run Monday to Friday 08.30hrs - 18.00hrs with main duties to include:
- Supervise the day-to-day management of labour ward.
- Ward rounds in Labour , Maternity and Gynaecology wards including acute and elective cases
- Perform or supervise emergency gynaecological cases on the CEPOD lists.
The main duties of Cold week will include:
- To undertake three elective caesarean section lists per week;
Monday, Wednesday and Friday - Complete electronic advice and guidance from GPs, triaging referrals and reviewing and actioning of urgent results to prevent delays in cancer pathways.
During the other seven weeks, you are required to perform approximately 4 - 5 PA clinical activities. These sessions may include:
- General Antenatal Clinic
- Theatre
- Any Specialised clinic of interest
There is also a 1:8 weekday on-call commitment and 1:9 weekend on-call commitment.
The successful applicant will have 1.5 Core SPA (Supporting Programmed Activities) job planned for CPD, revalidation, appraisal and departmental meetings.
The Clinical Director will confirm the job plan with the successful candidate, and all Consultants are supported to take part in an Annual Appraisal.

Person Specification Education & Qualifications- MRCOG or equivalent
- Full doctors GMC registration with Licence to Practise
- Two appropriate ATSMs or equivalent experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
- Candidates should ideally be on the Specialist Register or be eligible to be on the specialist register within six months of the date of the Advisory Appointments Committee (AAC)
- Experience in either of the following ATSMs or their equivalent can be beneficial:
- Labour Ward Practice
- Benign Abdominal Surgery ATSM
- Hysteroscopy
- Colposcopy
- Urogynaecology
- Advanced Antenatal Practice Maternal Medicine
- Fetal Medicine
- Possesses training and education skills to teach junior medical, nursing and midwifery staff
- Demonstrates Leadership qualities Provides learning opportunities within the clinical environment
- Provides learning opportunities within the clinical environment to teach junior colleagues
- A wide general obstetrics and gynaecology training
- Good experience at running labour ward and Emergency Gynaecology at a senior level
- Either of the following can be beneficial:
- Risk management experience
- Fetal Monitoring Leadership
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written
- Ability to establish good working relationships with staff and be able to communicate well with patients.
