Locality Steward – Highways and Public Realm

Hours: 37 hours per week Location: Plough Lane, Hereford Closing date: 22/07/2026

• Carry out planned and reactive inspections on the council's 2,000‑mile highways network.
• Record and raise any defects for repair and maintain accurate inspection logs.
• Engage with ward members, parish councils and local community groups to address local matters.
• Work with contractors to ensure minor works meet required specifications.
• Perform basic enforcement activities, including serving notices and preparing reports.

• Desirable: relevant qualification such as LANTRA Accredited Highway Safety Inspector or equivalent experience.
• Hold GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent).
• Knowledge and experience of working in a highways environment.
• Ability to travel to multiple site locations and walk reasonable distances in all weathers.

• Salary range £28,142 – £32,062 (HC6)
