An exciting opportunity has arisen for ambitious, well-motivated individuals to join the leadership team on Mortimer ward. This is a highly valued, rewarding, and challenging role with opportunities to improve the delivery of inpatient services.
1 full time post - Monday to Friday. Rotational shift pattern system over a 24 hours / seven day period. Days - 07.30hrs till 20.00hrs, nights - 19.30hrs till 08.00 hrs.
Mortimer ward is a 20 bedded acute Mental Health Ward and is part of the provision of acute inpatient services across Herefordshire and Worcestershire. It is a vital service for supporting those with acute mental health difficulties of varying complexities. Patients requiring admission may also have complex physical co morbidities and applicants should have an interest in both mental and physical health care delivery.
Patients admitted can both be informal or detained under the Mental Health Act and require a holistic care approach to work towards their Recovery.
The ward has a multi-disciplinary team approach to deliver holistic care, including nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapist, activity support workers, Psychiatric Consultants and junior doctors. You will also work alongside colleagues in the Crisis Team and Adult Social Care. We also welcome and support student nurses as part of our team.
Main duties of the jobMaintain high standards of patient care ensuring all patients individuality, dignity and privacy is maintained at all times.
To provide key leadership for the management of day to day duties and patient facing care
To complete operational duties such as the Health roster, provide line management supervision and complete staff appraisals to ensure developmental opportunities are captured.
Ensure that each patient receives an individual clinical assessment which is the subject of a regularly updated care plan that, wherever practicable, is formulated in conjunction with the patient.
Ensure that information regarding patients needs and progress are communicated promptly and accurately to their relatives and carers having due regard for confidentiality.
Provide strong clinical leadership for all staff, maintaining and enhancing own knowledge by making use of educational opportunities, under the guidance of the Ward Manager. This includes appropriate extensions to the role of the nurse/OT in line with NMC/HCPC and Trust policy.
Ensuring staff receive regular managerial and clinical supervision
Support the provision of staff annual staff development reviews
Assist the ward manager with recruitment and retention of staff
Managing ward dynamics and complex situations
Liaising with other service areas and aspects of the service
Taking a lead with inducting new staff
Take an active role in managing incident reporting and investigation
