Personal Assistant To A Disabled Adult – OM

Salary £13 per hour
Location Ross-on-Wye
Hours As per contract

Care and support assistant required for a man in his early 20’s and who lives with his family in Ross-on-Wye. He has Downs Syndrome and needs some support to keep him as independent as possible. He enjoys being out and about going for walks in the woods, swimming, shopping, and going to the gym. He is also partial to a pub lunch.

He has lots of activities during the week to keep him busy and would like to improve his life skills and especially keen to travel on buses. He would like to go to Hereford and other local places to meet up with friends and do activities. He volunteers in a charity shop, and you would occasionally be helping him with this.

Your role will be to support me to attend the activities described above. When out you will be helping me with life skills and maintaining my safety.

• Driver with own car essential.
• Previous experience of similar work is desirable but not essential, as I will make sure you get the training you need.
• You must be able to understand the importance of confidentiality, be fun, confident and energetic.
• A good attitude to independence is important to understand a disabled adult and their choices.
• Teamwork is important as well as being able to work on your own initiative, you will need to be a car driver/owner.

Direct payments are available from Local Authorities for people who have a care and support plan in place following a social care assessment. An amount of money is allocated to purchase the assistance and care needed to live independently. I should stress that my Mum will be your employer and have full responsibility for recruitment, contracts, supervision, pay, training etc. A support service assists her in meeting her responsibilities as an employer.
