We are looking for a Specialty Doctor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to join our team at Wye Valley NHS Trust. The post offers an attractive varied timetable with a potential for development of personal skills in one or more areas including:

We are looking for a Doctor with previous NHS experience. This role would suit a doctor who is interested in gaining further clinical and before applying for specialist registration through the Portfolio Pathway (previously known as CESR).

Main duties of the job

10.5 doctors share the ‘middle grade’ work of the department. This will include labour ward and emergency cover, gynaecology clinics, antenatal clinics, theatre sessions, colposcopy and endometrial assessment clinics and attendance at other special interest clinics.

You will be responsible for the day to day management of patients under your care and ensure that patients are adequately prepared for theatre and discharge. You will be responsible for ensuring that each patient goes home with a hand‑written or electronic discharge summary. The middle‑grade doctors will be expected to take part in the teaching of the women’s health junior doctors and medical students, both formally and informally.

Teaching of nurses and midwives will also be expected.

You must be aware of and put into practice the Health and Safety procedures relevant for each ward or department in which you are required to work.

Person Specification Education & Qualification
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCOG Part 1 or equivalent
  • Full doctors GMC registration with Licence to Practise
Desirable
  • MRCOG Part 2 or equivalent
Experience & Knowledge
  • Minimum of four years’ full‑time post graduate training or equivalent, at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or with equivalent experience and competencies
  • Capable of working to second‑on‑call duties
  • Able to work at registrar level (ST3) supported by evidence
  • Minimum of 12 months experience in NHS
Desirable
  • Experience of colposcopy or scanning
  • Willingness to counsel patients requesting termination of pregnancy and can perform the procedure
Audit/Quality improvement
  • Knowledge & evidence of participation in clinical audit
Desirable
  • Evidence of participation in teaching and audit
Management
  • Understanding of clinical governance issues, and organisational abilities and good time management

Research
  • Knowledge of research methodology and ability to interpret published research
