We’re looking for an Assistant Shop Manager to join our team at the Sense shop in Hereford
.

This is a permanent, part-time role working 15 hours per week across two days
, with a salary of £13 per hour
. You'll work two 7.5-hour shifts across Monday to Sunday, so flexibility to work across the week, including weekends and Bank Holidays when required, is important.

As Assistant Shop Manager, you'll work closely with the Shop Manager to help deliver excellent standards across the shop, maximise sales and generate vital income for Sense.

You’ll help create a welcoming and engaging environment for our customers, ensuring the shop is well presented, organised and stocked. From creating attractive displays and maintaining excellent customer service to pricing and rotating stock, you’ll play an important role in the day-to-day success of the shop.

People are at the heart of our shops. You’ll help recruit, support and motivate our fantastic team of volunteers, delegate tasks according to people’s skills and training and help create a positive working environment where everyone can contribute.

You’ll also get involved with the local community, promoting the work of Sense and helping to generate donated stock, recruit volunteers and support fundraising opportunities.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting the Shop Manager to maximise sales and achieve the shop's targets
  • Delivering excellent customer service and maintaining high shop standards
  • Creating attractive displays and keeping the shop clean, organised and welcoming
  • Pricing, rotating and managing donated stock
  • Supporting the recruitment, training and motivation of volunteers
  • Engaging with the local community to generate stock, volunteering and fundraising opportunities
  • Completing shop administration and following cash-handling and banking procedures
  • Helping maintain a safe environment for customers, staff and volunteers
  • Supporting other Sense shops within the area when required
What we're looking for

We're looking for someone who is enthusiastic, organised and confident working with both customers and colleagues.

You'll need:

  • Experience of providing excellent customer service
  • Experience of recruiting, managing and motivating a team
  • The ability to work effectively on your own initiative and as part of a team
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills
  • Confidence working with numbers and completing administrative tasks
  • Good communication skills and confidence engaging with members of the public
  • The ability to motivate yourself and others
  • An interest in and awareness of fashion trends
  • The ability to handle confidential information appropriately
  • A professional and respectful approach when working with customers, volunteers and colleagues

Previous retail experience, knowledge of selling and merchandising or experience conducting performance development reviews would be an advantage, but isn't essential.

You’ll need to be willing to work Saturdays, some Sundays and Bank Holidays as required
, undertake relevant training and occasionally support other Sense shops. The role also involves handling stock, including lifting heavy or bulky items.
