We are looking for people who want to make a difference working alongside the Police in custody suites, caring for detainees – from supporting them during their time in custody, completing forensic samples, and working with other agencies to support detainee rehabilitation.
Responsibilities- Support detainees during time spent in custody.
- Complete forensic samples.
- Collaborate with other agencies to support and facilitate detainee rehabilitation.
- Escort detainees and record observations as per individual plans.
- Work with police to address risks of self‑harm.
- Previous experience working within the police, security, or armed forces is beneficial.
- Reasonable level of spoken and written English and basic numeracy.
- Competent at using computer and IT programs.
- Full valid driving licence.
- Right to work in the UK (British passport or ILR for ≥3 years with no gaps out of country >3 months).
- Clean driving and criminal record – subject to police vetting.
- Salary to be discussed at interview.
- Full‑time: fixed shift rota pattern of 4 shifts on and 4 days off (06:45–19:00 for 2‑day shifts, 18:45–07:00 for night shifts); rolling rota available 2 years in advance.
- Part‑time: fixed shift rota pattern (06:45–19:00 day shifts, 18:45–07:00 night shifts) with 2‑day shifts on, 8 days, 2 nights, 4 days off; rolling rota available 2 years in advance.
- All employees work full shifts; part‑time workers must still cover some night shifts.
- Referral incentive: £150 for each successful colleague referral.
The custody suites can be an energetic place to work, with no two shifts identical. While detainees are in custody, we provide individuals with all their physical, mental healthcare and wellbeing needs. You will work with a small team alongside police officers and the support of experienced senior custody detention officers.
TrainingAfter selection and vetting, you will complete a 3‑week initial training course (ITC) Monday to Friday, 8 am–5 pm on full pay.
