About the Role

At Herefordshire Council, families are often best placed to identify solutions that keep their children safe, supported and thriving. We are looking for a skilled and passionate Family‑Led Decision Making (FLDM) Coordinator to help make this happen.

As part of our Families First transformation, you will bring children, young people, parents, wider family members and their support networks together to develop plans that build on family strengths and create lasting change, empowering families to build their own plans.

This unique role is independent and neutral, supporting families to take ownership of decision‑making while ensuring the voice of the child remains at the heart of everything you do.

Responsibilities
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with children, young people, and families.
  • Coordinate and facilitate Family Group Conferences and other family‑led decision‑making meetings.
  • Support children and young people to participate in ways that reflect their wishes, feelings and understanding.
  • Identify and engage wider family and community networks.
  • Help families develop safe, realistic and sustainable plans.
  • Facilitate review meetings and support families to reflect on progress and changes needed to move forward.
  • Work alongside social workers and partner agencies to embed Family‑Led Decision Making across Herefordshire's Families First journey.
  • Maintain high‑quality records and contribute to service learning and quality assurance.
Qualifications
  • Experience of working with children, young people and families.
  • Skilled in facilitating meetings and managing challenging conversations.
  • Ability to work confidently with complex family dynamics while remaining calm, balanced and solution‑focused.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, child development and the needs of vulnerable children.
  • Experience of multi‑agency working.
  • Belief in strengths‑based, restorative and relational approaches.
  • Ability to build trust quickly and communicate with warmth, empathy and professionalism.
What this role isn't
  • Hold cases.
  • Complete statutory assessments.
  • Deliver therapeutic intervention.
  • Make decisions on behalf of families.
What we offer

A competitive salary, holiday entitlement, and access to our contributory pension and staff benefits scheme.

  • Salary range of £22,096 – £25,060 per annum.
  • 31 days' annual leave (pro rata) plus bank holidays. Additional 10 days may be purchased during the request period.
  • Flexible working, including potential for job‑sharing, part‑time hours and agile working.
  • Employee Assistance Programme: 24/7 access to support and counselling.
  • Payment of professional membership fees (based on role requirements).
  • Retail, leisure, holiday and health benefits, including savings, cash back and discounts.
Commitments, Covenants and Statutory Obligations
  • Applicants may be interviewed if they meet essential criteria.
  • We seek diversity: those indicating disability, Armed Forces Veteran or Reservist status, or Herefordshire care leaver status will be considered under relevant commitments.

We take safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults seriously and expect staff, visitors and volunteers to share in this commitment.

Applicants will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service enhanced check and further pre‑employment checks.
