Position: Cheese Production Supervisor (Boardman,OR)

Overview

Cheese Production Supervisor – On-site at Tillamook facility, Boardman, Oregon. Join Tillamook, a farmer-owned cooperative with a long-standing history and a focus on quality across dairy products.

What you will do

The Food Manufacturing Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the cheese department at the Tillamook plant to ensure efficient operations. Responsibilities include assisting in managing the department, including payroll, scheduling, GMPs, SOPs, safety, sanitation, operation of equipment, troubleshooting and solving problems with processing equipment, and issuing work orders.

Responsibilities – a day in the life
  • Supervise the production of cheese at Boardman from receipt of milk through cheese production while maximizing yields and maintaining cost efficiency.
  • Ensure all standard operating procedures (SOPs) are followed.
  • Assign and track work orders.
  • Communicate production goals to the crew.
  • Review daily production data and maintain priority balance; organize and prepare efficiency summaries.
  • Ensure proper sanitation techniques for production equipment.
  • Report all exceptions to product or ingredient quality as appropriate based on severity/urgency.
  • Work with operators to troubleshoot and resolve equipment problems and other production issues.
  • Implement plans to correct problems, determine root causes, and oversee corrective action.
  • Utilize labor and packaging supplies cost-effectively to control costs.
  • Oversee 6S initiative.
  • Manage day-to-day performance of cheese operators to ensure following procedures.
  • Ensure SOPs are known and followed.
  • Champion department’s World Class Manufacturing (WCM) initiatives.
  • Ensure employees are trained and cross-trained in a fair and efficient manner.
  • Address performance issues timely and confidentially; provide coaching and mentoring to enhance performance.
  • Build teamwork through respect, cooperation, and information sharing.
  • Ensure compliance with USDA, OSDA, FDA, and other regulatory product safety requirements.
  • Establish manufacturing quality control point testing and measures.
  • Review previous day’s production and laboratory reports of cheese analysis; establish and maintain relationships with Quality Assurance.
  • Work with the maintenance department to plan and schedule repairs and preventive maintenance, and collaborate with maintenance engineering.
  • Interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, directing, and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public; communicate effectively; work under pressure and meet deadlines; handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrate excellent time-management skills with the ability to work independently.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • High school diploma or GED required. A bachelor’s degree is a plus, or a combination of experience and education.
  • 3–5 years of progressively responsible experience managing a manufacturing operation with supervisory experience.
  • Weekend and off-shift work is required. Duties may include repetitive motion and lifting up to 45 pounds.
