Job SummaryWork in SBCP’s Asset Development Department to provide comprehensive financial counseling, coaching, and education. The role focuses on helping customers increase savings, reduce debt, improve credit, and access capital/credit. The financial counselor will also recruit participants for and facilitate SBCP’s wealth‑building programs.
Key Responsibilities- Provide one‑on‑one financial counseling using in‑person and digital tools.
- Offer prompt, efficient, friendly service with an emphasis on problem‑solving.
- Analyze current financial conditions and build outcomes‑based action plans for customers and third‑parties.
- Maintain extensive product knowledge for SBB and SBCP financial products.
- Assist customers in accessing SBCP and SBB products to achieve their goals.
- Deliver group learning sessions online and in‑person on financial skills.
- Build and maintain relationships with the community to attract targeted customers.
- Develop new clients and partners through community outreach to raise awareness of SBCP’s lending products and services.
- Use business‑development techniques to grow a client base for asset development services and lending products.
- Manage a reciprocal referral network with SBCP and SBB lenders.
- Utilize digital platforms to collect and track data, key performance indicators, and report metrics.
- Assist with grant and certificator reporting as needed.
- Complete all required training and continuing education for certifications.
- Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with a minimum of five years in a credit or financial counseling role.
- HUD housing counselor certification required (must be obtained within six months of hire).
- Accredited Financial Counseling certification (via Association for Financial Counseling & Planning Education) required or coursework begun within sixty days of start date.
- Strong prioritization, detail orientation, organizational and independent‑work skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- High analytical ability.
- Strong customer‑relations skills and problem‑solving judgment.
- Valid driver’s license, vehicle, and insurance coverage; ability to travel within markets.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, project‑management tools, and CRM systems.
- Fluency in English and Spanish.
