Bach to Rock ("B2R"), America’s Music School for students of all ages, is seeking a part-time Woodwinds Instructor to join our team in Herndon, VA. The Woodwinds Instructor will teach private lessons, semi-private lessons, and small-group classes on one or more woodwind instruments, such as flute, clarinet, saxophone, and related instruments, and may support band/ensemble programs as needed. We are looking for instructors who are comfortable working with students of varying ages and ability levels in a positive, structured learning environment.
Responsibilities- Teach private and small group lessons on woodwind instruments (such as flute, clarinet, and/or saxophone) using the Bach to Rock curriculum and supplementary materials.
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to match each student’s age, skill level, goals, and learning style.
- Prepare students for performances, recitals, and ensemble participation as appropriate.
- Maintain a positive, encouraging, and student-centered lesson environment.
- Communicate professionally with students and parents/guardians regarding progress, expectations, and practice.
- Collaborate with school leadership and front desk staff on scheduling, attendance, and student placement.
- Participate in occasional school events, recitals, and performances as requested.
- Follow all School policies, procedures, and professional standards.
- Strong proficiency on at least one primary woodwind instrument (for example, flute, clarinet, or saxophone); ability to teach multiple woodwinds is a plus.
- Ability to teach beginner through intermediate levels; experience with advanced students is a plus.
- Prior teaching experience (private lessons, group classes, or school/camp settings) is preferred.
- Ability to explain musical concepts clearly and adjust teaching style for children, teens, and adults.
- Professional, reliable, and punctual, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Coursework or a degree in Music, Music Performance, or Music Education.
- Experience performing in ensembles, bands, or professional settings on your primary instrument(s).
- This is a part-time, hourly position.
- Teaching hours are based on student enrollment and program demand, and may include weekday afternoons/evenings and weekends.
- There is no guaranteed minimum number of hours per week; hours may increase or decrease over time as students enroll or schedules change.
- Expected starting pay range: $17.00–$20.00 per hour.
- Compensation for this position is based on a tiered pay structure that considers education, teaching experience, and relevant professional performance. The starting rate offered within the posted range will reflect the candidate’s qualifications and the results of the interview and teaching demo.
- Over time, your hourly rate may be eligible for adjustment based on teaching performance, student retention, reliability, and overall contribution to the school.
