Geriatric Experience Required
The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training and making workflow recommendations.

• Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Properly explain the process of venipuncture (blood drawing) and or other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) in a clear but courteous manner.
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand all physicians' orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Check all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correctness.
• Package specimens for transport.
• Store specimen samples according to required temperature and place samples in appropriate collection container/tube, accurately label, and follow different procedures as outlined by specific protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required.
• Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast‑paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum 1 year of experience.
