Primary Responsibilities:

​ The Digital Modernization Sector at Leidos is seeking a dynamic Data Platform E ngineer to support cloud modernization initiatives for the United States Coast Guard (USCG) at Command, Control, Communication, Computer, Cyber, and Intelligence Service Center (C5

ISC) in the Alexandria, VA area. This role is part of a high-impact program focused on delivering secure, scalable cloud solutions that enable operational agility and resilience across the USCG enterprise.
​ As a Data Platform Engineer on the Operations team , you will lead the evolution and governance of our multi- cloud data ecosystem. This strategic role is ideal for a hands-on architect and thought leader who can drive innovation across AWS and Azure platforms, enabling scalable, secure, and intelligent data solutions that power analytics and business transformation. This role is essential to maintain operational integrity, security compliance, and performance across hybrid cloud deployments.

You’ll work closely with cloud engineers, cybersecurity analysts, and program leadership to drive continuous improvement and deliver value to the mission.

* ​ Ope rational St rategic Responsibilities   * ​ Set technical operational direction for data infrastructure, governance, and platform engineering standards   * ​ Partner with data science, analytics, and software teams to deliver high-impact solutions   * ​ Drive modernization initiatives   * ​ Evaluate emerging technologies and guide adoption strategies across the organization   * ​ Champion data security, compliance, and cost optimization in multi-cloud environments   ​ * ​ Operational Technical Responsibilities   * ​ Architect and implement scalable data pipelines, lakes, or warehouses using cloud-native tools   * ​ Lead Infrastructure-as-Code deployments   * ​ Optimize distributed data processing frameworks (e.g., Spark, Databricks) for performance and reliability   * ​ Oversee CI/CD pipelines and Dev Ops practices for data platform components   * ​ Monitor and troubleshoot cloud data services to ensure uptime and resilience   * ​ Work closely with developers, network engineers, and security teams to support cloud-based applications and services   * ​ Support cross-functional coordination across engineering, cybersecurity, and program management teams   * ​ Promote continuous improvement through feedback loops and process refinement   * ​ Ensure alignment with USCG mission priorities and Leidos delivery standards   ​

Basic Qualifications:

* ​ Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Computer Science, Information Systems, Business)   * ​ 12 + years of experience in cloud infrastructure engineering .
* ​ Deep expertise in AWS (e.g., Redshift, Glue, S3, Lambda) and Azure (e.g., Synapse, Data Factory, ADLS)   * ​ Proven track record of leading enterprise-scale data platform initiatives   * ​ Advanced proficiency in Python, SQL, and distributed computing frameworks   * ​ Strong understanding of data governance, security, and compliance frameworks
