Unisys Database Administrator – IRS MBI Clearance Required

Epic Systems is supporting a U.S. Government customer on a large mission‑critical development and sustainment program to design, integrate, build, deliver, and operate a network operations environment, including introducing new cyber capabilities to address emerging threats.

Job Title: Unisys Database Administrator

Work Location: Remote

Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain an IRS MBI (Minimum Background Investigation) Security Clearance from a Federal Agency.

The selected candidate will provide Unisys database administration, design, and development support in a diverse, fast‑paced, and growing environment of a Federal Government Agency. The Database Administrator will collaborate with Development teams to modify and tune new and existing database access interfaces as well as analyze database performance as needed. The DBA will support the operations and maintenance of non‑production databases and provide secondary support to production database support personnel.

The operating environment consists of multiple Unisys Dorado 8590 partitions. Most applications utilize DMS 2200 databases with a few smaller applications utilizing RDMS 2200. The DBA will have experience with modification of existing schemas, subschemas and RDMS tables; maintaining and executing UCOB applications; programming, planning, designing, developing, analyzing, testing, and resolving application problems using the databases; knowledge of database backup, restore, recovery capabilities.

Day‑to‑Day

Job Responsibilities
  • Monitor database area space usage on the Production systems.
  • Respond to all user requests for information and support on an as‑needed basis.
  • Employ technologies to support application development and maintenance of Unisys databases: DDL, SDDL, UREP, etc.
  • Work with management to develop database strategies to support agency needs; consult and advise users on the use of databases; troubleshoot problems and design solutions to operational and/or performance problems with the databases.
  • Answer questions about installation, operation, configuration, customization, and usage of database‑related software products; identify and solve application and system problems, and issues on a 24×7 basis.
  • Apply diagnostic techniques to identify problems, investigate causes and recommend solutions to correct failures.
  • Provide alerts and situation status information to the customer management team.
  • Coordinate critical issues as well as new product and/or system implementations.
  • Monitor performance and ensure completion of operational processes including incident resolution, root cause analysis, change management, and continual service improvement.
  • Prepare, approve, and coordinate the implementation of technical documentation and ensure that technical documentation is current, accurate and complete.
  • Identify, develop, and conduct training needs for others as appropriate.
  • May participate in or lead defined project activities, and initiate process improvements.
  • Will be required to provide on‑call support when required.
  • Perform system/application and database monitoring, alerting, database performance tuning.
  • Work with developers and others to support their ability to use the data to further the interests of the customer. This includes data cleanup, conversions, running scripts, synchronizing versions, database upgrades, etc.
Periodical And Ad Hoc Tasks Execution
  • Monitor and respond to any issues resulting from the implementation of the new schemas on an annual basis.
  • Implement schema changes as directed by the business unit on an annual basis and coordinate the changes with all Unisys applications within the customer environment.
  • Every other year execute the process to refresh test data on the Development system.
  • Make changes to unload/reload/conversion programs corresponding to the schema changes.
  • Execute processes to install the new schema on the Development system and migrate the data from the prior schema to the new schema on the Development system.
  • Execute schema installation tasks for Systems Acceptance Test system, Final Integration Test system, and Production systems.
  • Upon User Request - Execute the process to refresh the data used for Training purposes on the Production systems, update glossaries (data dictionaries) based on user requests, and make source schema changes based on user requests.

Working remotely is permitted. Occasional travel to client sites with pre‑approval is required; approved travel expenses will be reimbursed.
