Legal Secretary, Legal Assistant
Paralegal – Strategic Education, Inc
SEI’s Legal Department is a collaborative team of attorneys and professionals based in Minneapolis, MN and Herndon, VA, who proactively partner with business and academic leaders to create opportunities for students to accomplish their goals through an academically rich, outcome-based online and in‑person education, while minimizing institutional risk. The Legal Department serves all SEI entities, including, but not limited to:
Capella University, Strayer University, Sophia, and Torrens University. This position will report directly to the Senior Associate General Counsel.
- Prepare state regulatory documents for filing and provide support for timely submission of required compliance reports
- Research state authorization, compliance, and professional licensure requirements for legal review
- Monitor and track state reporting and project deadlines to support deliverables within established timelines
- Collaborate with various internal departments including campus operations, facilities, student and academic affairs to support project initiatives
- Maintain repository for shared department access of state authorization and regulatory compliance related documents
- Collaborate with other legal team members to efficiently use team resources, refer projects and inquiries to appropriate colleagues, and monitor, track, and advise on matters from initiation through conclusion
- Maintain familiarity with higher education compliance regulatory requirements and related best practices
- Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree
- Paralegal certification preferred
- 2 years work experience as a paralegal or legal assistant
- Demonstrated knowledge of research and organizational skills
- Excellent analytical, oral and written communication skills
- Must have strong computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Keen attention to detail and issue spotting
- Experience with Westlaw and basic legal research.
- Strong work ethic and ability to prioritize, multitask, adapt and re‑prioritize nimbly in a fast‑paced, dynamic work environment
- Effectively communicate throughout various levels of management within the organization.
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive company information
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Regular, dependable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this job.
- Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant
- Must be able to lift at minimum 1 lbs.
- Other essential functions and marginal job functions are subject to modification.
- Travel via plane, car, and metro may be required to perform this job.
