WGL - Gate Station Technician I
Job DescriptionWashington Gas is currently hiring a Gate Station Technician I. In this role, you will assist in the safe operation and maintenance of gate station facilities and pressure regulating equipment (GSO facilities). Under the direction of senior personnel, you’ll operate, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and install less complex equipment used at GSO facilities.

Responsibilities- Assist in the operations of GSO facilities.
- Assist in the maintenance of GSO facility equipment and machinery.
- Operate valves as required.
- Perform miscellaneous duties in and around stations including yard and building maintenance, digging; snow removal, painting, grass cutting and trimming etc.
- Perform periodic station inspections.
- Install tubing, conduit, wiring, piping, and framework for all GSO facilities.
- Interpret company records, such as map book, station drawings, work orders etc.
- Communicate effectively via company radio, verbal instructions, etc.
- Stock and equip company vehicles.
- Maintain tools and equipment.
- May be assigned to related business support and administrative activities (e.g., backend meter processing, backend corrosion processing, backend leak/damage prevention processing, peer safety observations, vehicle clean-out, cross functional training activities, etc.)
- Shift Work:
As required. Will report to various company facilities as required. Overnight travel may be required. - Use of Personal Vehicle:
As required.
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Working knowledge of mathematics, physics and electronics.
- Must pass Criteria assessment prior to hiring.
- Formal technical training preferred.
- Minimum of 18 months of hands‑on technical experience in mechanical trade, manufacturing equipment, pumps, compressors, automotive mechanics, small engine repair, HVAC, electronics, above‑ground gas piping and tubing.
- New hires must pass Gate Station Technician I entrance level testing and successfully complete all training, testing and Operator Qualifications for Gate Station Technician II position within eighteen (18) months of hiring.
- Valid driver’s license, meet all certification requirements, complete all mandated safety and annual training.
- CDL holders subject to testing under Federal Highway Regulations.
- Must be able to smell odorized natural gas.
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
- Basic drawing interpretation skills.
- Intermediate computer skills such as opening and closing files, data entry, creating and modifying spreadsheets and word documents, saving files, sending and receiving emails with attachments, etc.
Current union members will receive priority on these vacancies, per the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
