Utility Equipment Operator ; Grounds

The purpose of this position is to operate equipment to perform maintenance and repair. Employees in this classification perform skilled work, and is responsible for operating such equipment as, but not limited to dump trucks, tractors, front-end loaders, backhoes, bobcats, rollers, lawn mowers and snow removal equipment. Prepares and maintains records of work performed. Performs general maintenance on equipment

• 1. Operates a variety of purpose equipment for the town’s grounds, roads and rights-of-way.
• 2. Maintains records as needed.
• 3. Services and transports equipment as needed.
• 4. Flags traffic, if certified, during road and rights-of-way maintenance.
• 5. Conducts setup and breakdown for town special events; may require working at special events.
• 6. Performs snow and ice removal as required.
• 7. Works with automated irrigation systems in town; maintains landscapes of town properties.
• 8. Renovates town ball fields and town parks as required; repairs fences surrounding town properties as needed.
• 9. Performs other duties as required.

Position is considered “essential personnel”; defined as staff who are required to report to their designated work location during weather-related or other emergencies, even when town offices are closed or normal operations are suspended.

• High school diploma or GED required
• Supplemented by a minimum of one year’ experience involving equipment operation
• Valid commercial driver’s license with acceptable record, or the ability to obtain within si months of employment
