Summary: The Real Monarchs Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach and Club coaching staff in creating a high‑performance, player‑development‑focused environment within the Real Salt Lake player pathway. This role plays a critical part in the daily training process, match preparation, talent evaluation, and holistic development of players competing in MLS NEXT Pro.
The Assistant Coach contributes to training design and delivery, matchday coaching, opponent analysis, player assessments, and scouting initiatives, while modeling professionalism and alignment with Club values at all times.
Responsibilities Include:- In coordination with the Real Monarchs Head Coach, plan, prepare, and conduct all team training sessions.
- Support match preparation and tactical planning for all MLS NEXT Pro competitions.
- Attend and support all matches, both home and away, including travel as required.
- Coach on matchdays in an assigned capacity.
- Prepare, present, and contribute to detailed scouting reports and opponent analysis.
- Scout players as directed, in alignment with the Club’s recruitment and development structure.
- Conduct player evaluations and written assessments as required by the RSL Front Office and Head Coach.
- Participate fully in staff meetings, departmental initiatives, and Club‑wide development activities.
- Maintain required coaching licenses and pursue continued professional development.
- Uphold all league, Club, and safeguarding policies, including player welfare and professional conduct standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of team and organizational objectives.
- USSF B License (or equivalent coaching license recognized by U.S. Soccer).
- Minimum 2‑3 years of coaching experience in a professional, semi‑professional, academy, or collegiate soccer environment.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate tactical concepts clearly and concisely to players in both training and matchday environments.
- Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills, including the ability to prepare and deliver scouting reports, training plans, and player feedback.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively within a coaching staff, accepting direction while contributing ideas and solutions.
- Experience providing individual and group player feedback in a constructive, development‑focused manner.
- Ability to build trust and credibility with players, maintaining professional boundaries and consistent standards.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time‑management skills in a fast‑paced, results‑driven environment.
- Demonstrated problem‑solving and decision‑making skills under pressure, including during matches and congested competition periods.
- Ability to teach through clear instruction, demonstration, and corrective feedback.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Calendar) and comfort producing written materials.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively and work non‑traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Commitment to maintaining professional conduct and complying with league, Club, and safeguarding policies at all times.
- Ability to pass a background check and become Safe Sport certified.
- Professional or collegiate playing experience.
- 3‑5 years of experience coaching in a developmental or professional environment.
- Strong understanding of MLS NEXT Pro rules, roster mechanisms, and competition protocols.
- Experience working within a club pathway model (academy → second team → first team).
- Familiarity with video analysis tools and performance data platforms.
