The Pediatric Sleep Medicine Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will join a collaborative multidisciplinary team consisting of three physicians, two APPs, and dedicated sleep laboratory staff providing comprehensive care to pediatric patients with sleep-disordered breathing and other sleep disorders.
The APP will provide seven outpatient clinic sessions per week, evaluating and managing pediatric patients referred for conditions including snoring, obstructive sleep apnea, and patients requiring positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy. Responsibilities will include ordering and reviewing diagnostic sleep studies, discussing results and treatment recommendations with patients and families, and prescribing and managing CPAP, BiPAP, and AVAPS therapy.
The APP will coordinate PAP therapy with durable medical equipment (DME) and home health providers, including completing and signing equipment orders and required documentation. The APP will monitor PAP adherence through electronic compliance downloads, assess treatment effectiveness, troubleshoot tolerance issues, and make therapy adjustments as clinically indicated. This monitoring and care coordination will require dedicated administrative time outside of scheduled patient appointments.
Additional responsibilities include managing Pediatric Sleep Medicine EMR messages and telephone calls and ensuring appropriate follow-up for patients receiving PAP therapy. Patients typically require follow-up within 3–4 weeks after a diagnostic sleep study when obstructive sleep apnea and PAP therapy are recommended, within 31–90 days after PAP initiation to meet insurance compliance requirements, and at least every three months when experiencing difficulty with PAP tolerance or adherence.
Once stable, patients receiving PAP therapy are generally followed every 6–12 months.
The ideal candidate will have strong clinical assessment, patient and family education, care coordination, and communication skills and an interest in developing expertise in pediatric sleep medicine and PAP management.
