PrimaryPurpose
This role handles and possesses knowledge of all deli products. Team members receive, process, prepare, wrap, slice, weigh, mark, package products, and stock shelves, cases, and bins while maintaining neat, attractive conditions and properly signed displays.
Duties and Responsibilities- Provide quality customer service as an essential component of every position within GIANT/MARTIN’S stores.
- Receive, process, prepare, wrap, slice, weigh, mark, and package products.
- Maintain proper shelf, case, and display conditions, including stocking, cleaning, straightening, and rotating product (usually under 30 lb).
- Maintain proper cooler conditions, including coding, rotating, organizing cases of product (frequently over 20 lb and occasionally up to 50 lb), and cleaning.
- Maintain proper prep area conditions, including cleaning and sanitizing work surfaces, utensils, and equipment.
- Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations applicable to the deli area.
- Maintain safe and clean sales floor conditions, including sweeping and mopping.
- Provide exceptionally friendly and courteous customer service, answer questions, make recommendations, and promote products through suggestive selling.
- Dress according to company policy and maintain a neat, clean appearance at all times.
- Complete ELM training courses as they are added to the learning page.
- Report all accidents and file incident reports to the supervisor within 24 hours.
- Promptly secure injuries with a first aid kit.
- Follow instructions and ask questions when in doubt.
- Report unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
- Adhere to company apparel and footwear policy.
- Horseplay is forbidden.
- No running on the premises.
- Know emergency evacuation routes, exits, and alarms.
- Wear required PPE, including cut‑resistant gloves when working with knives or blades.
- Demonstrate proper food safety and sanitation work habits.
- Use proper lifting procedures.
- Keep floors and work areas clear and clean.
- Never leave running machinery unattended.
- Smoke only in designated areas; the shop is otherwise smoke‑free.
- Understand company policy and procedures as outlined in the employee manual.
- Know MSDS information for all materials used.
- Complete Lockout/Tagout training.
- Complete Confined Space and Right‑to‑Know training.
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
- Capable of communicating and understanding company policies and safety regulations.
- Meet the ergonomic and physical requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Able to use or learn to use the equipment and tools needed for the job.
- Shift hours: minimum 4 hour shifts or more as needed.
- Job cycles: continual maximum.
- Lift/carry: up to 50 lb.
- Stand 55 %, sit 0 %, walk 45 %.
- Category IV: lifting, carrying, P/P up to 50 lb.
- Maximum static pull: 20 lb.
- Temperature exposure ranging from freezer to unair‑conditioned back room.
- Team members are responsible for understanding company policy and procedures as outlined in the policy manual and team member handbook.
