Department Overview
The Specialty Camera Engineering team in Ware, UK is responsible for developing cameras for long-range surveillance (e.g., border or coastal security). Products span hardware, firmware and mechanics with end-to-end development, testing and maintenance across the lifecycle.

Motorola Solutions is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join the Silent Sentinel team to support ongoing projects. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, capable of autonomy, and able to reach out for support as needed. The role requires collaboration with stakeholders internal and external to engineering to produce reliable products and production methods.
The primary responsibilities include designing enclosures and mechanisms suited for harsh environments (including
-40°C, marine conditions and MIL STD). Designs will be created in CAD (Solid Works) and translated into technical drawings and build guides readable by production, quality and manufacturing teams. Attention to detail in drawing release, prototype testing and production troubleshooting is essential. A portfolio with relevant work is expected for interview consideration.
- Collaborate with internal machine shop (different site) and suppliers to achieve company objectives
- Produce supporting documentation to allow for an independent production team
- Use 3D modeling software to design parts, assemblies and mechanisms using a variety of materials and fabrication technologies (machining, 3D printing, laser cutting and folding)
- Estimate amount of work required to complete proposed tasks
- Create detailed production-quality fabrication drawings, design documentation, and assembly drawings for new and existing components
- Drawing and design review to ensure high-quality material delivery to stakeholders
- Produce specification and development of designs, prototypes, and test fixtures
- Mechanical testing and verification of parts/products and report creation
- Design improvement during the ECR process
- Support other engineering disciplines to help meet objectives
- Communicate effectively with other engineering teams to ensure the designed product meets needs
- Fluency in English (spoken and written)
- CAD experience in Solid Works (3D modeling, 2D drawings, BoM)
- Knowledge of material properties, manufacturing techniques, plating, coatings and fasteners
- Ability to travel between Ware and Sandy on short notice
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including clear documentation
- Self-motivated, quick to learn and able to work in a team
- Pragmatic problem-solving approach
- Ability to design for manufacture and assembly
- Ergonomic and aesthetically pleasing design capability is a plus
- Familiarity with IP ratings and achieving IP67
- Ability to design and carry out relevant tests to achieve high product quality
- Ability to justify design decisions with calculations, analysis and documentation
- Experience in FEA and thermal simulation is advantageous
