Lab Sample Support Technician (Microbiology)

Synergy is seeking a proactive and enthusiastic Lab Sample Support Technician (Microbiology) to join our Lab Support team based in Ware. This role is ideal for someone looking to build or grow their career within a regulated laboratory environment, with full training provided. The role welcomes school leavers, college graduates (A‑levels / BTEC), or early‑career candidates and doesn't require a degree within Science to apply.
WhatYou'll Be Doing Environmental Monitoring & Lab Support
- Carry out routine environmental monitoring excursions, collecting water and air samples across the site
- Prepare, label, and record microbiological samples following SOPs and compliance requirements
- Perform testing according to defined methods or Pharmacopoeia (full training provided)
- Ensure documentation meets cGMP and ALCOA+ standards
- Support ad-hoc testing requests to ensure smooth supply chain operations
- Maintain high standards of laboratory housekeeping and 5S compliance
- Take responsibility for allocated lab equipment, ensuring it remains validated, calibrated, and fit for use
- Actively contribute to Continuous Improvement activities (e.g., Kanban, 5S, sustainability initiatives)
- Perform all activities safely and in line with Synergy and customer procedures
- Escalate any issues relating to safety, compliance or data integrity
- Ensure all media, standards and solutions used are within expiry
- Maintain accurate training records and proactively request refresher training where needed
- Work closely with Synergy Team Leaders, the Synergy Lab Support Supervisor, and customer departments including Lab Leads, Quality, Compliance, and EHS
- Support colleagues through cross‑training and provide cover where required
- Strong problem‑solving skills
- Excellent organisation and attention to detail
- Confident communication skills, both written and verbal
- Customer‑focused, collaborative, and able to work effectively in a team
- Comfortable working in a busy, hands‑on lab environment
- Competent with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Experience with SOPs, risk assessments or regulated environments
- Previous lab, manufacturing, or quality experience
- Understanding of COSHH and/or laboratory safety
- Experience with Continuous Improvement tools (5S, Kanban, etc.)
- A-Levels in a science subject, HND in a scientific discipline, or relevant experience (training provided)

The role involves being active around the site, including walking, bending, reaching and sample collection
