Job Description

The National Income Service (NIS) is responsible for sending over 100,000 invoices to customers and bringing approximately £450m of regulatory charges and fees income into the EA. It is the single point of contact for income, focusing on billing and debt activities across the organisation. Our ambition is “Funding Environmental Regulation by Maximising Our Income” and to modernise our income to make it easier for our customers to do business with us.

Position Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Billing Administrator to join the Regulated Industry Billing Team within the National Income Service. The role is part of a dispersed team and you will work with colleagues across the country.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support and assist the delivery of billing functions within the NIS, with the goal of maximising income through accurate and timely invoicing, minimising debt, and maximising cost recovery.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal colleagues and external customers.
  • Manage own workload as part of a dispersed team, flex plans to handle a varied workload.
  • Review and organise large data sets; provide innovative solutions when appropriate.
  • Support the development of an innovative and resilient income service.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Resilient and able to flex plans to effectively manage and prioritise a varied workload.
  • Strong focus on delivering good quality outcomes and embracing new ideas.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Experience in billing activities, managing and reducing debt is advantageous.
  • Passion for ensuring accuracy, problem‑solving, and delivering solutions.

The National Income Service is a dispersed team so the base location is flexible. This is a full‑time post but part‑time or flexible hours are welcomed. Travel to other Environment Agency offices or meeting venues may occasionally be required. Interviews are expected to take place via MS Teams the week commencing 22nd June 2026.
