The role
We are working with a well-established 11–18 secondary school in Northumberland to recruit a Behaviour Support Assistant to support pupils with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, and barriers to learning
. This is a hands-on role suited to someone confident supporting pupils both in and out of the classroom.
The school has strong behaviour systems, a clear pastoral structure, and a proactive approach to inclusion and pupil wellbeing.

£100 – £120 per day | PAYE | Depending on experience
Large secondary school with sixth form provision
Clear behaviour policies and structured support systems
Experienced pastoral and safeguarding teams
Focus on consistency, routines, and positive relationships
Located in a historic market town with rail links to Newcastle
Easily accessible by public transport and major road networks
On-site parking available
Support pupils with behaviour and emotional regulation needs
Work 1:1 or in small groups to re-engage pupils in learning
De-escalate challenging situations and promote positive behaviour
Support pupils in lessons, interventions, and alternative spaces
Liaise with pastoral staff, SEN teams, and teaching staff
Experience in education, youth work, care, security, or similar settings
Confident supporting pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs
Calm, resilient, and consistent approach
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Open to day-to-day or long-term placements
PAYE only – no umbrella companies
Competitive daily rates paid weekly
Dedicated consultant with SEN and pastoral expertise

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
