Job Description & How to Apply Below

About the School

We are looking for a great teacher to join our small but mighty team during a colleague’s maternity leave.

Kielder Primary School and Nursery is a very small school with big ambitions for the community it serves. Nestled beside Kielder Water and Forest, we provide a unique educational experience to children aged from 2 to 11. Underpinned by our Thrive and Excel @ Kielder framework, we strive to ensure that every child in our care is happy, safe and making the very best of their individual potential.

We pride ourselves on being a happy, person‑centred place to work, learn and play.

Role

If successful, you will work with a very small mixed‑age class, either Reception/KS1 (Otters Class) or KS2 (Ospreys Class). Some experience of mixed‑age teaching is desirable but not essential as we will give you the training and support you need. We would value experience of delivering Read Write Inc. phonics and White Rose Maths but again, this is not essential. An understanding of what constitutes adaptive, quality‑first teaching is essential.

Ultimately, we are looking for someone who believes in teamwork and cherishing each and every child’s uniqueness.

This is a fixed‑term position to cover maternity leave. The position will run from September 2026 to May 2027 in the first instance and is full‑time. ECTs are welcome to apply; we are experienced in successfully mentoring ECTs and value the fresh insight they bring to the profession.

Responsibilities
  • Have values aligned with our core mission to help all pupils be ‘learners today, leaders tomorrow’.
  • Agree that in order for children to succeed academically, they must also be supported to thrive personally.
  • Be organised, self‑sufficient and willing to ‘muck in’ as part of a small team — deliver high‑quality, adaptive teaching to meet the needs of all pupils.
  • Show a commitment to ongoing professional development.
Benefits
  • A unique experience teaching at England’s most remote primary school.
  • Pupils described by Ofsted as ‘delightful’.
  • Incredibly friendly, dedicated colleagues.
  • Opportunities for CPD.
  • Highly supportive families working with you to secure the best possible outcomes for their children.
