Main duties

At Cygnet Healthcare, we have a strong occupational focus through support and direction from Clinical Leads and our Occupational Therapy Directors. We use evidence-based practice within each of our service lines, as defined by our clinical steering groups, in which Occupational Therapists play a key role. This role includes opportunities for learning, development and research, supported by a robust appraisal and supervision structure based on RCOT’s Career Development Framework.

Summary

The post holder will work at Cygnet Hexham and will be based on either Fisher or Franklin ward.

Salary: Band 6 Salary: £39,015 - £46,981 per annum (dependent on experience)

Hours: 40 Hours

Contract: Permanent

Start Date: March 2026

Cygnet Hospital Hexham comprises two wards:
Fisher Ward (17-bed acute service) and Franklin Ward (10-bed PICU service for women, including emergency/crisis admissions).

The hospital is designed to meet current national standards for improving mental health within a therapeutic environment.

Situated in the Tyne valley, the hospital aims to provide an important service for service users in the North East of England. The team includes consultant psychiatrists, psychologists, RMN/RGN nurses, occupational therapists and support workers.

Positive service user outcomes are at the heart of our services, and we recognise that every service user is unique and must be assessed and treated individually.

The post holder will be supervised by the Regional Lead Occupational Therapist for the North East.

Occupational Therapy Directorate

Under the leadership of our occupational therapy directors, we support over 185 Occupational Therapists and over 300 OT support staff. We work as a large team with opportunities to join specialist interest groups and contribute to service development.

Each service line has a clinical lead OT to lead and develop evidence-based practice and agreed OT pathways. Our OT team members have a voice in service model development and clinical governance.

Preceptorship & Induction

We offer a 12-month Occupational Therapy preceptorship programme to support and consolidate core OT skills, acknowledging pandemic-related placement experiences.
