K-12 School Behavior Specialist

A K-12 School Behavior Specialist works with students, teachers, and administrators to promote positive behavior, manage challenging behaviors, and create supportive learning environments for all students.

• Assess student behavior through observation, data collection, and collaboration with teachers and families.
• Develop and implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) tailored to individual student needs.
• Provide direct support and coaching to teachers on effective classroom management strategies.
• Conduct functional behavior assessments (FBAs) to understand the root causes of specific behaviors.
• Collaborate with school counselors, psychologists, and other support staff.
• Train school staff in positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS).
• Engage families and students in behavior support planning and progress monitoring.

• A Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, social work, or a related field is typically required.
• Experience working with children and adolescents in educational settings.
• Knowledge of behavior analysis techniques, including ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) is often preferred.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Familiarity with school-based behavioral frameworks (like PBIS) and legal requirements around student behavior interventions.
• This role requires patience, empathy, and a deep understanding of student behavior and learning differences.
