The Board & Leadership Development VISTA will strengthen the capacity of nonprofit organizations to build effective governance systems, develop board and executive leadership, and establish sustainable structures that support long-term organizational success. The VISTA will work with host organizations to assess governance capacity, review board structures and practices, and identify opportunities to improve board effectiveness and engagement. The member will support the development or refinement of bylaws, board policies, committee charters, onboarding systems, orientation resources, training materials, and tools for board recruitment, retention, and engagement.
The VISTA will also strengthen leadership continuity and organizational readiness by supporting succession and transition planning, documenting key processes and institutional knowledge, and developing tools that improve communication, accountability, decision-making, and leadership effectiveness. This work may support organizations undergoing growth, leadership transitions, audits, accreditation, strategic planning, or other significant changes. To improve alignment between governance and organizational strategy, the member will develop tools that connect board priorities, leadership goals, operational activities, and organizational outcomes.
Governance documents, leadership resources, templates, policies, and recommendations will be organized into a comprehensive legacy resource to help sustain improvements beyond the VISTA service term.
