Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing administrative and technical support to the division.

Responsibilities
  • Receives calls from internal and external customers; provides assistance; refer calls to appropriate personnel or department.
  • Assist Residents with issues and concerns.
  • Assist with compilation and production of Monthly Reports for Public Utilities Administration.
  • Compilation and production of Monthly report tracking Water Balance for System by route, service area and system.
  • Assist Meter Reader Crew Leader with daily meter reader activities and reports.
  • Processes and schedules locates through NC811 system. Assist with daily work orders for Public Utilities.
  • Oversee tap card functions for department. General clerical duties.
  • Logs all water and sewer applications for new taps or new services by developers, contractors, or the general public.
  • Creates daily work orders; codes daily work orders.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
  • Skill in organizing and prioritizing work.
  • Skill in operating such office equipment as a computer, copier, and calculator.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Advanced skills in office software such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
Physical Demands

The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects and must be able to distinguish between shades of color.

Guidelines include supervisory instructions and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
