Grade Foreman – Roadway Construction (Catawba County, North Carolina – Hickory)

The Grade Foreman is a field position responsible for organizing and leading a crew to safely and efficiently perform mass earthwork and excavating activities, balancing highway and road construction/reconstruction. The Foreperson works under the general direction of the Superintendent.

• Coordinate construction work according to priorities and plans.
• Plan, organize, and lead a grading crew.
• Produce schedules and monitor attendance of crew.
• Allocate general and daily responsibilities.
• Schedule aggregate material quantities and deliveries; determine trucking needs.
• Supervise and train workers and tradespeople.
• Ensure labor and other resources are adequate.
• Guarantee all safety precautions and quality standards are met.
• Supervise the use of machinery and equipment.
• Monitor expenditures and ensure they remain within budget.
• Resolve problems when they arise.
• Report on progress to managers, engineers, etc.

This is a full‑time position. Normal days and hours of work are Monday‑Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., with time provided for lunch. Hours may vary, and long hours or weekend work may be required. Work may be local or out‑of‑town, in which case overnight stays are required.

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out‑of‑area and overnight travel may be expected. A valid driver’s license is required.

Assign work to subordinates, establish deadlines, and modify work schedules to meet deadlines as needed.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proven experience as construction foreman.
• Diploma in a skilled trade (electrician, carpenter, etc.) is a plus.
